- Hi all
-
- I hope you can help my friend with a very strange problem:
-
- He has an A1200 with an internal 3.5" Quantum Maverick 270mb HD and a Star
- LC200. He has fitted the HD by cutting a little bit of shielding away.
-
- His problem is thus: The printer/printer port will not work after a while. He
- is on his second A1200 (shortly to get a third, so wants this problem solved)
- and they both behaved the same. What happens is that the printer will suddenly
- refuse to print a word. It is definately hardware, not a software problem, and
- it is "more likely" to be the computer. It has happened both times after
- prolonged use of the HD (i.e. long typing sessions) and once it ha happened
- once the printer has refused to work ever again, without swapping the
- computer. However, once he took the top off the case (which is very bulgy, the
- HD is quite big) and the printer worked later for a short peroid of time.
-
- He is very confused/annoyed/bemused, so he needs an solution before the next
- machine he gets goes the same way. I think it could be:
-
- a) HD or sheilding touching a chip, shorting something out (when the case was
- opened, it moved the hd back out the way but it vibrated back again)
- b) Heat from the HD melting/destroying something?
-
- No chips are overly hot when the machines on, so this kind of rules out any
- permenant IC failure.
-
- And solutions anyone? If so, please mail directly to the guy, at
- memrah@UG.BCC.Bilkent.EDU.TR please.
-
- Thanks a lot on behalf of a very bemused guy :)
-
- Chris
